Capitello Travertine and Walnut Pendant Light

Raw travertine takes center stage, its beige surface pitted with the small natural cavities typical of limestone. Above it sits a cylinder of solid walnut, dark grain against pale porous stone: the Capitello walnut pendant light takes its two-tier silhouette from a Roman column capital.

The wood passes partly through the stone shade. Once lit, light filters from the base of the cylinder and grazes the rough texture of the rock for a warm, subdued glow. The travertine is neither painted nor lacquered and takes the light differently through the day, while the walnut adds a smooth, close-grained counterpoint.

Compact at 16 cm (6.3 in) high and 12 cm (4.7 in) wide, it suits a kitchen island, a row above a counter, or the side of a bed, where it frees up the nightstand.
