Symi Knotted Hemp Rope Dome Ceiling Light

A net of twisted hemp rope, knotted stitch by stitch over a slim black steel frame, forms the rounded dome of this hemp rope ceiling light. No cord, no rod: it hugs the surface and drops just 21 cm (8.3 in).

Once the bulb is on, light passes through the mesh and throws a web of shadows onto the ceiling that doubles the fixture's presence. The beam stays warm and diffuse, never harsh, and the beige rope takes on a honey tone that warms the whole room. At 30 cm (11.8 in) wide, this semi-flush light fits where a pendant would not: a hallway, an entryway, an attic bedroom or a low-ceilinged kitchen.

Hemp keeps its irregular grain, visible fibers and variations in tone, those of a material worked by hand rather than molded. The natural beige pairs with washed linen, raw wood, terracotta and limewashed walls. One alone warms an entryway; repeated along a hallway, it sets a gentle rhythm, and the black frame all but vanishes once lit.
